One of this year's most anticipated horror film, "Weapons" has now become one of the biggest of the year as well. As I'm typing this, the film has grossed over $155 million off a $38 million budget. Very solid numbers for a film that is not based upon a comic book, previously adapted material and its not a remake or a sequel!
The premise of "Weapons" is a doozy! 17 children mysteriously vanishes into the night perhaps being abducted by an unseen force! They're all from the same classroom! Is the teacher involved OR is it a group? I won't spoil it by revealing anything more. I also wish the film didn't explain everything. I guess I've been spoiled by the Hitchcock & Kubrick classics! I thought it was OK. I'm in the minority though. Many loved the switching from serious mystery & horror to dark comedy. I wasn't a huge fan of that. But its rewards outweigh the negatives. This is only Zach Cregger's second feature and he's shown he's capable of creating original cinema, whether I enjoy it or not.
