Wong Kar-wai was a name that I was familiar with when I first really starting getting into Cinema 25 plus years ago! I was made aware of "Chungking Express" years ago, thanks to Quentin Tarantino's public praise! I don't know why I waited so long, but I finally watched this 1994 masterpiece five years ago and it instantly became one of my favorites (my wife, Nicole's too!)! 

You can listen to my podcast episode below for more in depth info but, Wong Kar-wai was having a difficult time editing "Ashes Of Time" (another masterful film) and he wanted to know if he could still make films quickly & intuitively. So, he literally he had no script and ended up shooting the film in 23 days! 

My first reaction was: "Where has this film been my entire life"! The film is impossible to classify but has gangster film elements, romance and comedy! The film is 32 years old and yet it still seems fresh & relevant! If you are searching for cinema to truly move and captivate you (and perhaps want to see something original), then seeing "Chungking Express" is a must.
