Honestly, the only reasons I watched this was to see Jessica Chastain and thought it would make for a good discussion on my on-going cinema podcast.

This new supernatural horror film is based off a novel called "Incidents Around The House" by Josh Malerman (of "Bird Box" fame). I haven't read the book so I can't compare the two. Jessica Chastain has fun playing a dual roles. The actual mom and the "Other Mommy", a shape shifting, trickster demon that emerges from the child's closet to to try and manipulate her to "Into Your Heart" to possess her and trap her in purgatory!

The film tries to craft a completely original demon not based on any folk tales or myths and has nearly 50 jump scares! Unfortunately, despite Jessica Chastain's usual decent performance, you can see the jump scares coming from a mile away and there were scenes that made me laugh out loud that were not supposed to! If you're less demanding in your horror needs, you may not mind this, but for me it was a forgettable 90 minutes.
